Selection Process for IOCL Apprentice Recruitment 2026:

  • Selection shall be on the basis of percentage of marks in descending order (aggregate of marks of all subjects of all years/semesters will be considered for eligibility) obtained in the prescribed qualification applicable to the trade applied for and meeting the notified eligibility criteria. Preference shall be given to candidates applying for apprenticeship training for the first time.
  • In case of tie (two or more) of percentage of marks obtained in the prescribed qualification, the date of birth (senior by age) shall be the factor to be considered (in that order only) to place a candidate’s rank in the merit list. In case same date of birth, candidates having a higher percentage of marks in Matriculation shall be considered.

Eligibility Criteria:

Educational Qualification

  • The prescribed qualification for Class XII / Graduate / Diploma holders should be from a recognized Board/ University/Institute as a regular full time course in the relevant trade/discipline with minimum 50% marks (45% for SC/ST and PwBD category candidates for the seats reserved for them) in aggregate. 
  • Wherever CGPA/OGPA or Letter Grade is awarded in the Class XII/ ITI  Fitter)/Degree/Diploma examinations, its equivalent aggregate percentage of marks must be indicated in the On-line Application as per the norms adopted by Board/University/Institute. Candidates will have to furnish certificate from the concerned University/Institute regarding the equivalent aggregate percentage of marks with reference to their CGPA/OGPA or Letter Grade at the time of document verification failing which their candidature will not be considered. 
  • For ITI qualification in the relevant trade, eligibility shall be pass marks. Only regular full time ITI course recognised by NCVT/SCVT shall be considered.
  • Diploma / Graduation/ ITI in Branch / Subjects as specified against respective Trade/ Discipline above will ONLY be considered as eligible qualification. Diploma / Graduation/ ITI in other than specified Branch / Subjects shall not be considered.

Age limit

  • Minimum 18 years and maximum age shall be 24 years as on 31-10-2023 for General/EWS candidates.

Selection Process

  • Selection shall be on the basis of performance of the candidates on the basis of marks obtained by them in the Written Test (of two hours duration) and meeting the notified eligibility criteria.

Age limit

  • Candidate should not be less than 18 years of age and should not be more than 26 years of age as on 24.01.2022.

Application Fee

  • Candidates belonging to General, OBC and EWS categories are required to remit Rs.100/- as application fee. SC/ST/PwBD candidates are exempted from payment of Application Fee.

Selection Process

  • Selection process shall consist of Written Test and Skill/Proficiency/Physical Test (SPPT).
  • Skill/Proficiency/Physical Test (SPPT) shall be qualifying in nature only.
  • Final merit list shall be prepared based on the marks secured in Written Test of only those candidates who are considered FIT in SPPT.
  • Candidate has to secure a minimum of 40% marks in Written Test to qualify for SPPT. For SC/ST/EXSM/PwBD candidates, minimum qualifying marks shall be 30% (after providing 10 % relaxation) against the reserved posts only.
  • Candidates, who secure minimum qualifying marks in the Written Test, shall be shortlisted for Skill/Proficiency/Physical Test (SPPT) in the ratio of 1:5 i.e. first 5 candidates with the highest score in written test shall be called for SPPT for one vacancy.
  • If there is a tie of scores in written test marks, then all candidates with the same score shall be short-listed for SPPT.
  • In case where number of candidates who qualify in Written Test are less than the required ratio, all the candidates who have scored minimum qualifying marks in Written Test will be shortlisted for SPPT. 
  • The documents shall be checked for only those candidates who qualify in the Written Test and are shortlisted for SPPT, on the day of SPPT. Only those candidates shall be allowed to appear in SPPT whose documents are found in order.
  • If all shortlisted candidates are found ineligible before the SPPT stage on account of not meeting the eligibility criteria of qualification, age etc., then next 5 candidates who have qualified in the Written Exam in the order of merit, shall be called for the SPPT, as available. If less than 5 qualified candidates are available, then as many available shall be called for SPPT. If there is a tie of score for the 5th ranked person, then all such qualified candidates shall be called who are tied on that score, even if it exceeds the number of candidates from 5.
  • If after the SPPT all candidates who have appeared in the SPPT are found to be UNFIT, then the next 5 candidates as available, who have qualified in the written Test as per the order of merit, shall be called for the SPPT to fill up the post. If less than 5 qualified candidates are available, then as many available shall be called for SPPT. If there is a tie of score for the 5th rank position, then all such qualified candidates shall be called who are tied on that score, even if it exceeds the number of candidates from 5. 
  • If only one candidate qualifies in the SPPT and he/she does not join after issuance of offer of appointment, then next 5 candidates as available who qualified in the Written Test as per the order of merit, shall be called for SPPT to fill up the post. If less than 5 qualified candidates are available, then as many available shall be called for SPPT. If there is a tie of score for the 5th position, then all such qualified candidates shall be called who are tied on that score, even if it exceeds the number of candidates from 5.

IOCL (Jr. Operator) Non Executive Eligibility Criteria

Before applying the applicants firstly need to ensure their eligibility criteria required for IOCL Junior Operator Recruitment 2018. Check following sections such as age limit and educational qualification to verify your eligibility
  • Educational Qualification: 
    • Junior Operator Gr. I: 
      • Qualification: Matric (Class X) with 2 (Two) years ITI in any of the following Trades: (1) Electronics Mechanic (2) Instrument Mechanic (3) Electrician (4) Machinist (5) Fitter 
      • Experience: Minimum one year post qualification work experience in the relevant filed (excluding training) in a factory/manufacturing organization. Apprentice training under Apprentice Act after two years regular course of ITI will be considered as experience subject to production of National Apprentice Certificate issued by National Council of Vocational Training.
    • Junior Operator (Aviation) Gr. I:
      • Qualification: Higher Secondary (Class XII) with minimum of 45% marks in aggregate for General & OBC candidates and 40% in case of SC/ST candidates against reserved positions with valid Heavy Vehicle Driving License. 
      • Experience: Minimum one year work experience in Heavy Vehicle driving (excluding training). 
    • Junior Chargeman Gr. III 
      • Qualification: 3 years Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Instrumentation / Civil / Electrical & Electronics / Electronics Engineering from recognized Institute / University with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate for General & OBC candidates & 45% in case of SC/ST candidates against reserved position.
      • Experience: Minimum one year post qualification work experience in the relevant field in line with the qualification (excluding training) in a factory/manufacturing organization. Apprentice training under the Apprentice Act 1961 after Diploma will be considered as experience subject to production of Apprenticeship Certificate issued by Ministry of HRD.
  • Age limit: Minimum 18 years and Maximum age shall be 26 years for General category candidates. 
  • Application Fee: General and OBC candidates are required to pay Rs.150/- (Rs. One hundred fifty only) as Application Fee plus additional Bank charges as applicable through the Payment Gateway / NEFT Online Transfer provided through the Portal ONLY. No other mode of receipt of payment shall be accepted. 

IOCL Junior Operator Selection Methodology

  • Southern Region: The selection methodology will comprise Written Test and Skill Proficiency Physical Test (SPPT) which will be of qualifying nature. 
  • Western Region: The selection methodology will comprise of Written Test and Skill Proficiency Physical Test (SPPT) which will be of qualifying nature.

IOCL Junior Operator Exam Pattern 

  • Southern Region:
    • The written test will assess the candidates on the following parameters:
      • Junior Operator 
        • Technical knowledge in the relevant discipline: 40 Questions
        • Generic aptitude including quantitative aptitude: 20 Questions
        • Reasoning abilities: 20 Questions
        • Basic English Language skills: 20 Questions
        • Total: 100 Questions
      • Junior Operator (Aviation)
        • Generic aptitude including quantitative aptitude: 40 Questions
        • Reasoning abilities: 40 Questions
        • Basic English Language skills: 20 Questions
        • Total: 100 Questions
      • Junior Chargeman 
        • Technical knowledge in the relevant discipline: 40 Questions
        • Generic aptitude including quantitative aptitude: 20 Questions
        • Reasoning abilities: 20 Questions
        • Basic English Language skills: 20 Questions
        • Total: 100  Questions
  • Western Region:
    • The written test will assess the candidates on the following parameters:
      • Junior Operator (Aviation):
        • Generic aptitude including quantitative aptitude: 40 Questions
        • Reasoning abilities: 40 Questions
        • Basic English Language skills: 20 Questions
        • Total: 100 Questions
  • Southern Region & Western Region 
    • Written Test shall be of Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ’s) consisting of 4 options with one correct option. Candidate has to choose the correct option. 
    • There shall be 100 questions in the Written Test and total marks shall be 100. Each correct answer shall carry 1 mark and there shall be no negative marking for wrong answers.
    • Duration of Written Test shall be of 90 minutes.
    • For qualifying in the written test, overall cut-off marks would be 50% for General / OBC (Non Creamy Layer) 
    • Candidates and sectional cut-off marks would be 40%. Candidates should secure both the overall and sectional cutoff marks in written test for further consideration. 
    • Short listed candidates, in the ratio of 1:2 (two candidates for one post, with due cognizance to number of reserved posts) subject to securing minimum qualifying marks in the written test, will be required to undergo a SPPT. The SPPT for each discipline shall be conducted by a duly constituted committee.

How to Apply

  • Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply. The candidates must have an active e-mail id and mobile number, which must remain valid for at least next one year. All future communication with the candidates will take place through registered email id only.

Eligibility Criteria:

Educational Qualification

  • Attendant Operator and Boiler: Candidate must have a three years B.Sc. (Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/ Industrial Chemistry)
  • Trade Apprentice (Fitter): Candidate must have a Matric with two years ITI (Fitter) course.
  • Technician Apprentice (Chemical): Candidate must have a three years Diploma in Chemical Engg. / Refinery & Petro-Chemical Engg.
  • Technician Apprentice (Mechanical): Candidate must have a three years Diploma in Mechanical Engg.
  • Technician Apprentice (Electrical): Candidate must have a three years Diploma in Electrical Engg.
  • Technician Apprentice (Instrumentation): Candidate must have a three years Diploma in Instrumentation/Instrumentation and Electronics / Instrumentation and Control Engg.
  • Trade Apprentice (Secretarial Assistant): Candidate must have a three years B.A./B.Sc/B.Com.
  • Trade Apprentice (Accountant): Candidate must have a Full-time Bachelor’s degree (Graduation) in Commerce from a Govt. recognized institute/University.
  • Data Entry Operator (Fresher Apprentices): Candidate must have a minimum 12th pass
  • Domestic Data Entry Operator (Skill Certificate Holders): Candidate must have a done class 12th and should possess Skill Certificate of ‘Domestic Data Entry Operator.

IOCL apprentices recruitment age limit

  • The minimum age limit of the candidates should be 18 years and the maximum age limit of the candidates should be 24 years as on October 31.

IOCL apprentices recruitment selection process

  • Selection shall be on the basis of performance of the candidates on the basis of marks obtained by them in the Written Test (of two hours duration) and meeting the notified eligibility criteria.
  • In case of tie (two or more) of marks in the written test, the date of birth (senior by age) shall be the factor to be considered (in that order only) to place a candidate’s rank in the merit list.
  • Call letters for Written Test will be issued to all prima-facie eligible candidates, on the basis of details furnished in On-line Application.
  • Written Test will be conducted with Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) consisting of four options with one correct option.
  • A candidate will have to secure minimum 40% marks in Written Test for qualifying the selection process. The minimum qualifying marks shall be 35% for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwBD categories against reserved positions. Obtaining minimum qualifying marks in the written test does not confer any right or claim by the candidate for being shortlisted for Document verification or the final selection, as the same is based on candidate’s rank in the merit list on the basis of marks obtained in the Written Test, number of seats in respective Trades/Disciplines, candidates meeting the notified eligibility criteria and documents found in order upon verification etc.

Selection Process

  • The selection methodology will comprise of the following:
    • Candidates will be allowed to appear in GD, GT and PI only if they meet the eligibility criteria prescribed in the advertisement for recruitment of Assistant Officer in Grade A0. Therefore, candidates must be able to produce valid and relevant documents in Original and in latest Central Government formats at the time of Document Verification in support of information furnished by them in their IOCL application form, failing which candidates may not be allowed to participate in GD, GT and PI and may be declared ineligible for the position. 
    • Shortlisting for Group Discussion (GD), Group Task (GT) and Personal Interview (PI) will be done on the basis of percentage of marks obtained by candidate in all Groups of CA Intermediate /CMA Intermediate 
    • In order to be eligible for final merit list, candidate must qualify separately in GD/GT and PI both. Final merit list will be prepared based on performance of candidate in Personal Interview (PI) and Group Discussion/Group Task (GD/GT) taken together.
    • Shortlisted candidate for GD, GT and PI will have to reach at the venue decided by Indian Oil Corporation Limited on date and time as advised to candidates. Request for rescheduling of GD/GT and PI may not be entertained.
