Nationality/Citizenship

  • A candidate must be either:
  • a citizen of India, or
  • a subject of Nepal, or

Age Limit (as on 01.08.2026)

  • The crucial date for age reckoning is fixed as 01.08.2026 in accordance with the provisions of DoP&T OM No. 14017 /70/87-Estt.(RR) dated 14.07.1988.     UPSC Geo Scientist Eligibility 2027

    Nationality / Citizenship

    • A candidate must be either: (a) a Citizen of India, or (b)a subject of Nepal, or (c)a subject of Bhutan, or (d)a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. or (e)a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. 
    • A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the Examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.

    Educational Qualification

    • For Geologist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India: Master’s degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or GeoExploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource Management or Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Geochemistry from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or an educational institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed university under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956) i.e. recognized University. 
    • For Geophysicist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India and Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics) Group ‘A’ in C.G.W.B.: M.Sc. in Physics or Applied Physics or M.Sc. (Geophysics) or Integrated M.Sc. (Exploration Geophysics) or M.Sc (Applied Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Marine Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Tech.) (Applied Geophysics) from a University incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature in India or other educational institutes established by an Act of the Parliament or declared to be deemed universities under the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
    • For Chemist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India and Scientist ‘B’ (Chemical) under C.G.W.B.: M.Sc. in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry from a University incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature or other educational Institutes established by an Act of the Parliament or declared to be deemed Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 i.e. recognized University.
    • For Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology) Group ‘A’ and Assistant (Hydrogeologist) Group ‘B’ in C.G.W.B. : Master’s degree in Geology or applied Geology or Marine Geology or Hydrogeology from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational Institutes established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
    • For Assistant Chemist Group ‘B’ in Geological Survey of India and Assistant (Chemist) Group ‘B’ in C.G.W.B. : Master of Science or Integrated Master of Science in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry or Physical Chemistry or Inorganic Chemistry or Organic Chemistry or Hydro-Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry from a recognized University or Institute.
    • For Assistant Geologist Group ‘B’ in Geological Survey of India : Master’s degree or Integrated Master’s degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Mineral Exploration or Marine Geology or Earth Science from a recognized University or Institute.
    • For Assistant Geophysicist Group ‘B’ in Geological Survey of India and Assistant Geophysicist Group ‘B’ in C.G.W.B. : Master of Science or Master of Science (Tech) or Integrated Master of Science in Geophysics or Exploration Geophysics or Applied Geophysics or Geo-Exploration or Marine Geophysics or Physics or Applied Physics or Applied Geology from a recognized University or Institute.

    Age Limit

    • A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the first day of the month of January of the year in which the Examination is to be held [i.e. as on 1st January, 2027] i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1995 and not later than 1st January, 2006.

    • Candidates (except Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability Candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay fee of Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred only), either by using net banking facility of any bank or by using Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit Card/UPI Payment for appearing in the Combined GeoScientist Examination, 2027.

    UPSC Geo Scientist How to Apply 2027

    • Applications must be submitted online only, in four modules — Account Creation, Universal Registration Number (URN), Common Application Form (CAF), and the Examination-Specific Module.
      • Visit upsconline.nic.in and create an account.
      • Complete the Universal Registration Number (URN) profile — a one-time registration valid for life across all UPSC exams — providing a valid photo ID (Aadhaar recommended).
      • Fill in the Common Application Form (CAF), uploading your photograph (with live photo capture) and signature (signed three times on white paper) as per specifications.
      • Complete the Examination-Specific Module for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination, including choice of centre and category/categories applied for.
      • Pay the prescribed fee online, where applicable.
      • Submit the form; no withdrawal, correction or modification is allowed after final submission (except a one-time URN profile edit facility, which does not affect already-submitted applications).
