Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Candidate must possess a Degree in Law from a University recognized by law in India.
- Will have to pass the vernacular (Gujarati) language proficiency test. [See instructions at Item No.5(I)(iv) Provided that, those candidates who have cleared their Secondary as well as Higher Secondary Examination with subject of Gujarati (Higher Level at both stages), shall not be required to pass aforementioned examination.
- Note1 : As decided by the High Court in its Full Court Meeting, the Candidates who have passed single subject of Gujarati from various Open Schools / Boards are not exempted from appearing in the Test of Gujarati Language as mandated in Rule5 (2) (aa) of the Gujarat State Judicial Service (Amendment) Rules, 2019.
- Candidate must be a practicing Advocate in Courts of Civil and/or Criminal jurisdiction on the last date fixed for submission of Online Applications and must have so practiced continuously for a period not less than Seven Years, immediately preceding as on the last date fixed for submission of the Online Application.
- Candidate must possess Basic Knowledge of Computer Application / Operation, as set out by the Government of Gujarat in General Administration Department Resolution No. PRCH1020051532K, dated 30/09/2006 and No. CRR102007120320G.5, dated 13/08/2008.
Age Limit
- A candidate must have attained the age of 35 years and must not have attained the age of 48 years in the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Socially & Educationally Backward Classes, declared as such by the Government of Gujarat, as well as Differently Abled Candidates with Locomotor Disability and ExServicemen and 45 years in the case of General Candidates, as on the last date fixed for submission of the Online Application.
Pay Scale
- Rs.1,44,840/ – Rs.1,94,660/ + allowances

- The candidates belonging to General Category are required to pay Examination Fees of Rs.2,000/ plus Bank Charges whereas Rs.1,000/ plus Bank Charges are required to be paid by the Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Socially & Educationally Backward Classes, Locomotor Disabled Persons and ExServicemen Categories via “Print Application / Pay Fee” Button through SBI ePay, provided on the web page of HCOJAS Portal.

- Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test). [Total 02 Papers]
- The Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) shall consist of 02 Papers (each of 100 Marks & 02 Hours' duration) consisting of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) each of 01 Mark and would be based on the following Syllabus:

- The language of the 'Question Papers' (I & II) of the Preliminary Examination, will be English.
- Preliminary Examination Papers (Objective Type) shall be assessed / evaluated by the Computer, as per entries made on OMR Sheet. As the evaluation is being done on the Computer by Scanning, there is no human intervention and hence, queries relating to rechecking of the OMR Sheets, subsequent to the Preliminary Examination, will not be entertained by the High Court. High Court reserves right to hold examination by any other mode also and if it so held, then also rechecking / reevaluation request will not be entertained by the High Court.
- In view of amended Rule5, viz. Clause (aa) of SubRule (2) of Rule5 of “The Gujarat State Judicial Service Rules, 2005”, Candidates who have not passed Secondary as well as Higher Secondary Examination with subject of Gujarati (Higher Level/First Language at both stages) are required to pass the vernacular (Gujarati) Language Proficiency Test as prescribed below and to secure minimum 40% Marks for being eligible for being called for Main Written Examination.
- Paper – III : Test of Gujarati Language: (50 Marks – 1½ Hours) [For those Candidates, who have not passed Secondary as well as Higher Secondary Examination with subject of Gujarati (Higher Level/First Language at both stages)]

- To become eligible for Main Written Examination, the Candidate As decided by the High Court in its Full Court Meeting, the Candidates have to secure minimum 50% or more Marks in each Paper of Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) and must have also passed their Secondary and Higher Secondary Examinations with subject of Gujarati (Higher Level / First Language at both stages); OR As decided by the High Court in its Full Court Meeting, the Candidates have to secure minimum 50% or more Marks in each Paper of Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) and must have obtained 40% or more Marks in the Test of Gujarati Language, in case they have not passed their Secondary and Higher Secondary Examinations with subject of Gujarati (Higher Level / First Language at both stages).
- The Marks obtained by the Candidates in the Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) as well as the Test of Gujarati Language shall not be taken into consideration for preparing the Final Merit of the candidates.

- The candidates who obtain minimum 50% Marks in the aggregate and minimum 40% Marks in each individual Paper in the Main Written Examination, shall be eligible for being called for Vivavoce Test (Interview).
- Vivavoce Test (Interview):
- Vivavoce Test shall be of 50 Marks.
- The object of the Vivavoce Test is to assess the suitability of the candidate for the cadre, by judging the mental alertness, knowledge of law, clear and logical exposition, balance of judgment, skills, attitude, ethics, power of assimilation, power of communication, character and intellectual depth, analytical ability and the like, of the candidate.
- For being eligible to be included in the Select List, the candidate must obtain minimum 40% Marks in Vivavoce Test.
