Eligibility Criteria for 241 Head Constable and Constable by ITBP
- Educational Qualification:
- Head Constable (MM):
- 10+2 pass from a recognised Board or Institution.
- Certificate in Motor Mechanic from a recognized institution or Industrial Training Institute with three years practical experience in the trade in a reputed workshop or three years diploma in Automobile Engineering.
- Constable (MM):
- Matriculation or 10th class pass from a recognized Board or Institution; and
- Industrial Training Institute certificate in respective trade from a recognized institution; or
- Three years experience in respective trade from a recognised firm.
- Age limit: Between 18 and 25 years
- Application Fee: Candidates belonging to General(UR)/ OBC category applying for recruitment to the above posts should pay Rs. 100/- (Rupees one hundred only) as application fee through online payment gateway system on www.recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in. Application received with any other mode of fee payment will be summarily rejected. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Ex-servicemen are exempted from paying fee.
Selection Process of Head Constable and Constable for 241 Posts
- The candidates whose applications are found in order, shall be issued admit cards (online) to appear in the recruitment tests. The date, time and place of recruitment test will be indicated in the Admit Card. It is clarified that candidatures of candidates who are issued admit cards will remain provisional till they are finally selected.
- Note:
- Before start of physical efficiency test (PET) and physical standard test (PST) the candidates will undergo thorough verification of identity including Biometric capture.
- Biometric identification of candidates can also be taken at any stage of recruitment.
Verification of Original Documents for Head Constable and Constable
- At the very beginning of recruitment process, the candidates will be required to produce the original documents related to Educational and Professional qualifications, date of birth etc. It is important that the candidates applying for this recruitment check their eligibility, to avoid disappointment at later stage. Original documents will be returned on the spot after verification and self attested copies of certificates will be retained with the application. Original copy of following documents will be required for verification:-
- (i) Educational Certificate(s); (ii) Date of birth Certificate as in Matriculation or 10th Class Certificate; (iii) Professional/Experience Certificate, if any; (iv) Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Certificate, as Annexure-II and OBC certificate, as Annexure‘III’ (if belonging to any of these categories). Candidates claiming OBC (NCL) status may note that certificate on creamy layer status should have been obtained within three years before the closing date i.e. 07.02.2018; (v) Domicile Certificate issued by local revenue authorities or PAN Card or Aadhar Card or Driving License or Voter ID Card or Passport for verification of citizenship. In case of West Pakistani Refugees settled in J&K, they are required to produce Certificate in the format attached as Annexure-‘VI’ issued by the Sarpanch/Numberdar of a candidate’s village to the effect that the person belonged to the West Pakistani Refugees Category, alongwith a copy of Electoral Roll showing the name of the candidate in the voter list for elections to the Parliamentary Constituency; (vi) Discharge certificate in case of Ex-Servicemen; (vii) One passport size photograph same as submitted with online application form; (viii) Certificate as per Annexure ‘V’ for claiming relaxation in height & chest (if applicable). (All candidates claiming relaxation under various categories shall bring aforementioned original documents/certificates at the time of recruitment tests for verification by the Board).
ITBP Head Constable and Constable Physical Standards
- All other States and Union Territories (except category mentioned below)
- Height: 170 cms
- Chest: 80 cms (Without expansio) | 85 cms (With expansion)
- For candidates falling in the categories of Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas and candidates belonging to the State of Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir and Leh and Ladakh regions of Jammu & Kashmir. :
- Height: 165 cms
- Chest: 78 cms (Without expansio) | 83 cms (With expansion)
- Candidates hailing from North-Eastern States of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.:
- Height: 162.5 cms
- Chest: 77 cms (Without expansio) | 82 cms (With expansion)
- All candidates belonging to the Scheduled-Tribes hailing from the North Eastern States as above and the Left Wing Extremism affected districts.
- Height: 160 cms

- All candidate belonging to the Scheduled Tribes other than North-Eastern States and Left Wing Extremism affected districts

ITBP Head Constable and Constable Medical Standard
- Eye Sight - The minimum visual standard for the candidates of all categories will be as follows:
- Visual Acuity unaided (Near Vision): N6 (Better eye) | N9 (Worse Eye)
- Uncorrected Visual Acuity (Distant Vision): 6/6 (Better eye) | 6/9 (Worse Eye)
- Refraction: Visual correction of any kind is not permitted even by glasses.
- Colour Vision: CP III by ISIHARA
- Remarks: In right handed person, the Right eye is better eye and vice versa. | Binocular vision is required.
- The candidates must not have knock knee, flat foot, varicose vein or squint in eyes;
- Must be in good mental and bodily health and free from any physical defect likely to interfere with the efficient performance of the duties.
- An colour blind person will not be eligible for appointment. If at any stage of service career, person is found to be colour blind, he will be boarded out as per SHAPE policy in vogue in the force;
- Tattoos:
- Content: Being a secular country, the religious sentiments of our countrymen are to be respected and thus, tattoos depicting religious symbol or figures and the name, as followed in Indian Army are to be permitted.
- Location: Tattoos marked on traditional sites of the body like inner aspect of forearm but only left forearm, being non saluting limb or dorsum of the hands are to be allowed.
- Size: Size must be less than ¼ of the particular part (Elbow or Hand) of the body.
ITBP Head Constable Physical Efficiency Test (PET) & Physical Standard Test (PST)
- Phase - I:
- Height Bar: Candidates who qualify the documentation will go through the height bar test. The candidates not meeting the prescribed height will be eliminated. .
- PET: Those who qualify the Height Bar Test, will be subjected to physical efficiency test. The events of the PET are as follows:-
- Race 1.6 Kms: To be completed within 7.30 Minutes.
- 11 Feet long Jump: 03 Chances to be given)
- 3 ½ Feet High Jump: 03 Chances to be given)
- No marks will be awarded for this test and it will be only qualifying in nature. Those who do not qualify will be eliminated. Pregnancy at the time of PET will be considered a disqualification and pregnant female candidates shall be rejected at this stage.
- PST: Candidates who qualify the PET will be screened for Height, Chest (Chest measurement for male candidate only) and Weight measurements. Those who do not meet the required physical measurements as applicable will be eliminated at this stage.
- Biometric Identification: Candidates who qualify Physical Standard Test are required to undergo biometric identification. However, biometric identification of candidates can be taken at any stage of recruitment.
ITBP Head Constable Written Exam Syllabus & Exam Pattern
- Phase - II:
- Written Examination (50 Marks): The candidates who qualify PST will have to appear in written examination. Fresh admit Cards to the candidates, who qualify for the written test will be issued online by mentioning the date & venue of the written test. A list of candidates qualified for written test will also be uploaded on ITBP website i.e. www.recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in. The written test will be as under:-:
- The written test for 50 marks containing 50 questions will consist of only OMR based objective type multiple choice questions to be answered using a Blue or Black Ball pen only. OMR Sheet will be signed both by the candidate and invigilator.
- The question paper will be set bilingually in Hindi and English.
- Pattern of question paper will be as under:-
- General knowledge (Bilingual questions): 10 Questions & 10 Marks
- Mathematics (Bilingual questions): 5 Questions & 5 Marks
- Hindi: 10 Questions & 10 Marks
- English: 10 Questions & 10 Marks
- Trade related theory (Bilingual questions): 15 Questions & 15 Marks
- Duration of written Test: 1 Hour
- Note:
- The questions for written test to the post of Head Constable (Motor Mechanic) shall be of 12th standard and the questions for written test to the post of Constable (Motor Mechanic) shall be of 10th standard.
- The candidate will be allowed to take carbon copy of the OMR answer sheet. Answer key to the question paper will be uploaded on the website www.recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in after the written examination is completed.
- Candidates are not permitted to use Mobile phone, calculators, Smart Watch or any other electronic/electrical device. Candidates, therefore, must not bring these devices inside the examination premises. Possession of these items, whether in use or not, will be considered as “use of unfair means” in the examination and appropriate action will be taken against such candidates.
- Candidates are required to mark their answers and fill the relevant columns on the OMR answer sheet only in Blue/Black ink.
- The candidates should not write anything on the OMR answer sheet except in the relevant columns. Any stray marks will lead to the OMR answer sheet not being evaluated and the candidate will not proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process.
- The cut-off percentage of marks for qualifying in written exam will be as under:-
- General and Ex-Servicemen: 35%
- SC, ST & OBC: 33%
- No representation for revaluation of answer sheet of written exam or re-conduct of written examination will be entertained.
- Skill Test (50 Marks):
- The candidates who qualify the written test will be put through a Skill Test. Skill test is divided into following parts:-
- Vehicle inspection: 15 Marks
- Identification of faults: 15 Marks
- Rectification of defects: 15 Marks
- Handling of tools: 5 Marks
- Total: 50 Marks
- The cut-off percentage of marks for qualifying in Practical (skill) test will be as under:-
- General and Ex-Servicemen: 35%
- SC, ST & OBC: 33%
- Merit List: After completion of the Practical (Skill) Test, Merit lists in each category namely, Gen, SC, ST, OBC (NCL) and Ex-servicemen will be drawn on the basis of total marks obtained by the candidates in the written examination. The candidates shall be shortlisted for Detailed Medical Examination (DME) as per the category wise vacancies on the basis of this merit. Extended list shall also be prepared to cover the shortfall due to failure of candidates in DME and Review Medical Examination (RME). However, there shall be no reserve list.

- Eligible and interested candidates should apply only through website www.recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in. Candidates are advised to fill the application form after reading the instructions carefully. The application must be submitted ONLINE only. No application will be accepted offline. Candidature of the candidate who submitted application offline will be rejected summarily.
